Swordfish XIV ‘Living Traditions’
Swordfish is one of the biggest premier events in the world for Historical European Martial Arts. The first event was held 2006 in Malmö, but ever since then Swordfish has an uninterrupted history of each fall in Gothenburg, on the Swedish west coast. 2019 will be no different in that regard, the event is held 31 October – 3 November and is hosted by Gothenburg Historical Fencing School, the GHFS. This year will be the 14th annual Swordfish and it will be greater and more ambitious than ever! For example this year we intend to take the concept of ‘World Class Tournament’ to the next level by striving higher for both male and female participants by allowing for more space and more tournaments.
Swordfish is unique in many ways. It has become known as a tough event, where the best competitions and competitors of the HEMA world gather. This is combined with intense training and a lot of different classes by renowned tutors to attend. And although that is true for many events, Swordfish hosts instructors and classes that you will not find anywhere else as well as some more well-known faces. This year we will also have a special theme named ‘Living Traditions’, meaning that we will be showcasing unique and interesting martial traditions from around the world within our workshops as well as our tournaments.
Swordfish XIV ‘Living Traditions’ will, as always, feature a lot of social events. We have workshop spaces, the always popular pub/cafeteria and designated times each day for free sparring. Everything is gathered in the same facilities and you will not have to travel around to go to classes or to get some sleep.
Last year we had participants from all over the world joining in on the fun. Join us in Gothenburg for a couple of days of inspiration, hard work and camaraderie.
You won’t be alone.
